Plasma Furnace Lid Installed
16th March 2020
The lid of the plasma converter was reunited with the base over the weekend. In total, the metal lid and refractory lining weigh 22 tonnes. The installation team needed to position it to the millimetre to ensure that the bolts would line up. This called for precision synchronised versalift work.
The roof was refractory lined by a specialist contractor in Liverpool while the base was lined on site. The roof was transported to Swindon, turned over, carefully positioned on the based and then bolted down.
The next step is to install the furnace inlet and exit ducts, followed by the pressure relief and auxiliary feed systems.
