£2 million award from the Department for Transport for SAF development
06th December 2021
ABSL has been awarded £2 million by the Department for Transport to support the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) at its plant in Protos.
The Green Fuels, Green Skies (GFGS) competition was launched in March 2021 to support the development of the emerging UK sector on its pathway to production of SAF at scale.
ABSL will work with a British refinery and British engineering company to produce a detailed engineering design for a new facility in Protos energy park in Cheshire.
The plant will use gasification and Fischer-Tropsch (FT) technology to convert 133,000 tonnes of waste a year into a biocrude that can be upgraded to aviation fuel.
